We are circulating an open petition for NSHE and the NV State Legislature to recognize collective bargaining rights for graduate assistants. The petition also calls on our universities to pay us a living wage. You can help by signing the petition and sharing it with other graduate workers. You can also request a presentation in your department from our organizers.

Who are Nevada Graduate Student Workers?

Nevada Graduate Student Workers (NGSW) are a group of graduate assistants (GAs) at UNR and UNLV working together to improve our work conditions. We started to organize during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic because of shared concerns about low stipends and workplace safety issues. In particular, our stipends have fallen far below the cost of living in Reno and Las Vegas and raises have been too small and too late to make a difference. We believe that the only way to bring lasting and meaningful change is to give GAs the power to negotiate a binding contract with administration through collective bargaining. Our aim is to win collective bargaining rights for graduate workers.
